Jay Carter of League City, Texas, was announced as assistant men's basketball coach at Southwestern in July 2025.

Carter came to Southwestern with four and a half years of experience as an assistant basketball coach for Miles Select Puma NXT. In this role, Carter contributed to 200+ wins by implementing advance offensive and defensive systems and fostering a culture of discipline and teamwork. He designed and executed more than 150 comprehensive practice plans focused on skill development, team strategy, and player growth.

He is the owner of a private basketball training business, JayCHoops. Since 2022, Carter has trained more than 150 student-athletes, including more than a dozen NCAA Division I athletes, focusing on skill development, basketball IQ, and athletic performance.

Carter graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in fitness and sports from the University of Houston in May 2025.
