Following a one-week hiatus, Spartan middle hitter Sydney Maynes, of Corning, is back in the spotlight as the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference's (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week-Volleyball for the week of Oct. 23-29, 2017. Maynes, a Southwestern sophomore, earned this same honor for the week of Oct. 9-17, 2017.

According to the ICCAC website, Maynes played a key role in the Spartans' four victories last week with 33 kills and 11 digs. She had 11 total blocks during the four matches. Last week's Spartan victories included a 3-1 win vs Grand View JV; a 2-0 victory vs Ellsworth; and a 2-0 victory vs Graceland JV. Maynes has 154 kills and 83 blocks for the season.

Maynes, who received her diploma in licensed practical nursing in June 2017, is currently enrolled in Southwestern's registered nursing program.

The Spartans enter post-season action tonight in the regional semi-finals at Northeast Community College vs the Northeast Hawks at 7 p.m.
