Casey Quiggle, a native of southern California, was announced today as head coach of the Southwestern Community College women's volleyball program.
Quiggle, who comes to Southwestern from the University of Jamestown in Jamestown, ND, has a broad athletics resume including 14 years of coaching experience. In his most recent position at the University of Jamestown, Quiggle was the assistant women's volleyball coach. This past fall, the program finished the season ranked #15 after making it to the Sweet 16 at nationals. Prior to that, he was the head boys' varsity volleyball coach at Aliso Niguel High School in Aliso Viejo, CA, for three years. During his time with the varsity team, they won an undefeated league championship and qualified for CIF playoffs in 2015 and 2016. His boys varsity team made it to the quarter finals in 2015.
Quiggle, who spent seven years total at Aliso Niguel, also served as an assistant varsity girls volleyball coach, junior varsity girls volleyball coach, and head freshmen volleyball coach during his time there. In addition, he has coached and excelled at club volleyball for a number of years. He played an intricate part in turning a losing program around and they went on to win three back-to-back-to-back league titles along with a CIF Regional Title in 2014.
Southwestern Athletic Director Todd Lorensen said the college is excited to be gaining Quiggle as a part Southwestern athletics and the Spartan family.
"Coach Quiggle has many years of experience in volleyball and a passion to lead a collegiate program," Lorensen stated. "His background and determination will be a great combination to build on the momentum of our volleyball program."
Quiggle has a bachelor's degree in political science from Central College in Pella, as well as a master's degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix in Phoenix, AZ, and a master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University in Irvine, CA.
Quiggle said his aim is to build Spartan volleyball into a strong and lasting program.
"Throughout my years of coaching, my knowledge and passion for the game have continued to grow," stated Quiggle. "Building the program will be a process, but it is one I am excited and passionate about."
Quiggle will start at Southwestern on Feb. 12. He replaces Aleesha Cleaver as the Spartans head coach. Cleaver left Southwestern for a coaching position at William Penn University at the end of 2017. The Spartans have made great strides the past two seasons, going from an overall record of 6-27 in 2016 to a record of 20-21 for the 2017 season.
