Creston, IA—With a year of college behind her and a diploma in practical nursing from Southwestern Community College in-hand, Haylee Meyer of Orient committed this week to competing with the Spartan softball team during their 2022-23 run.
Meyer, a May 2021 graduate of Orient-Macksburg High School, played outfield for the Bulldogs during high school. She earned a .351 batting average her senior year and received second-team recognition from the conference.
Academically, Meyer was named to the honor roll all four years of high school.
Southwestern Head Coach Danny Jensen said Meyer becomes the eighth member of the Spartans incoming class of 2022.
"Haylee is an outfielder and has played all three positions," Jensen said. "She is a solid hitter and a very good bunter. She will bring speed on the bases as well."
Meyer will continue with Southwestern's nursing program this fall, completing the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program during the 2022-23 academic year.
She is the daughter of Dani and Andy Meyer of Orient.
