As Southwestern Community College Head Softball Coach Nick Weinmeister heads into his third year at the helm of the Spartans, he has announced some changes in his coaching staff for the 2020-21 season.

Mallory McArtor, who joined the Spartan coaching staff in 2018, will take on a new role during the 2020-21 season. McArtor, who left her full-time role at the college to focus on her growing family, will still be a familiar face in the program. She will be stepping into a voluntary-assistant role as the Spartans look to compete at a high level within the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

Former Division I player Casey-May Huff, will be moving to the Creston community and joining the Spartan softball program in a full-time capacity for the 2020-21 season. Most recently, Huff was a graduate assistant for the softball team and communications department after competing and graduating at Abilene Christian University.

Weinmeister is excited about his hire.

“It was apparent from my first conversation with Casey-May that she would be a great addition to our staff,” Weinmeister stated.

Huff, who is very familiar with the level of competitiveness within the ICCAC, competed for her first two collegiate seasons at Iowa Central Community College before transferring to Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas. She was a Second Team All-Conference player as a freshman and a First Team All-Conference player as a sophomore for the Tritons, as she pitched and played key roles in the infield. She also garnered All-Conference recognition at Abilene Christian.

“Casey-May’s experience in the ICCAC, at the Division I level, and being able to coach multiple positions, will give us a lot of flexibility and our players will be lucky to learn from her on a daily basis,” Weinmeister said.

Huff earned her master’s degree in communication studies and was an adjunct instructor and academic coach for Abilene Christian.

In addition to coaching at Southwestern, Huff will be a residence hall coordinator in Southwestern’s student housing department.
